Welcome to Careers, Careers, and More Careers©. This product is an independent work packet that includes a self-assessment beneficial to the student during distance learning or for developing career readiness. You can use a google app when you purchase the pdf download. The google link is in the second slide of the pdf.

This product includes an engaging, informal, self-assessment for youth to see their best career options based upon their interests, strengths/challenges, and emotional awareness. For students with special needs, guided support can help student take part. This resource was drawn from from the Strengths and Career Index (SCI), which was created from the findings of 15 years of my qualitative research.

I believe all youth have strengths and interests that make them valuable to a particular job or a career. Yet some youth with emotional or physical challenges have steep pathways to make toward a job or a career that is a right fit.

Youth get prepared for careers with academic curriculum and life skills. But much more is needed. Positive psychology and disability literature tells us we should prepare youth in these 3 ways: to

1) develop a positive perspective of their strengths and challenges,

2) know their needs and preferences, and

3) consider work based upon their subjective life experiences.

We can change the trajectory of the national youth unemployment crises to youth employment opportunities, by providing essential tools to help them gain a perspective of their capabilities and know their needs and preferences.

Students will feel empowered by matching their interests from their Answer Sheet to the Answer Key of jobs/careers they may want to explore. These jobs/careers fall into: college, certifications, high school degree, part time, volunteer and hobbies. The Answer Key offers 286 jobs or careers with 6 enhancement scenarios that indicate student readiness for aiming for advanced degrees.

The bottom line is every student can be work ready for a job or career right for them.

2. Objectives

3. How the Careers, Careers, and More Careers Meet Common Core Standard

4. Follow Up Activity Options

=================================================

1. How does it work?

The student completes the Part A: Answer Sheet.

Next the student completes Part A: Answer Key receiving individualized career options that match h-her interest and is presented in 7 levels: volunteer, hobby, self-employment, jobs, certification/training, college, and careers with advanced degrees.

2. Objectives:

a. Student will read the numbered item, example, or scenario.

b. The student will consider the item and decide if it applies to h-her. For example the numbered item reflects the student’s:

-academic/cognitive ability

-past experience or interest that was motivating.

-interest to pursue learning more about the career and possibly choosing it for career exploration.

c. The student will check ‘applies to me’, if it applies to h-her or leave the item blank (as it does not apply to h-her). The student then moves to the next numbered item.

3. How the Careers, Careers, and More Careers© Meet Common Core Standard

[CCRA/R/1/] Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly

The student will read each numbered item on the Careers, Careers, and More Careers and make logical inferences from it.

The student will then reflect upon their own interest in experiencing the numbered item activity and/or an interest to learn more about it. The student makes a choice to check, ‘applies to me’ or does not check item because it doesn’t apply to him.

The student then reads the next numbered item.

[CCRA/R/1/] Cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.

After taking the informal assessment, the student receives a list of careers that match their interests and strengths. From that list, the student will

[CCRA/R/1/] cite specific textual evidence

[CCRA/R/1/] when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.

The student will write about or present h-her conclusions based upon h-her Answer Sheet and Answer Key- the findings.

4. Four Follow Up Activities to include writing answers to self-reflective questions.
